Sales of built-in dishwashers are increasingly topping the $1000 mark. Shoppers spending that kind of money are looking for innovation, quiet performance, excellent washability, high efficiency and outstanding design. Here are a few pricey models to consider that stand out from the crowd for just these reasons, as well as a few outstanding models that will save you some serious money.
Miele Advanta G2170SCSF
Our most expensive selection, the Miele G2170SCSF -- at $1429 -- is the entry-level model for this top-rated brand of dishwashers. Cleaning performance on this Advanta is superior, as is energy conservation and long-term durability. This model is also very quiet, but if you move up in the line, you can find models that are even more so. Recognizable for the outstanding attention provided to silverware, Miele's models feature an upper rack just for these items. On the G2170SCSF, the silverware rack is an option. If you're planning to spend the money to go with Miele, we can't think of a reason not to purchase the silverware tray. That tray is just one of the many features that justifies spending this kind of money on a dishwasher. The other reasons have to do with the water heater that doesn't start the cycle until the water is at the optimum temperature and the outstanding quality all around. For all its quality and efficiency, you should be aware that you will need to occasionally clean out the filter to keep this model running in top form. Because it does such a thorough job of cleaning, you'll also need to be prepared for cycles that run longer than those on more mainstream models. The creme de la creme of dishwashers, Miele models are in incredible demand for today's luxurious kitchens.

Maytag Jetclean III MDB9750
Just before getting scooped up by Whirlpool in a recent buyout, Maytag shook up the market with one of the most innovative dishwasher ideas to hit kitchen business in years - the first three-rack dishwasher we've ever seen. The Jetclean III MDB9750 offers the excellent performance we've come to expect from Maytag, plus the versatility and added capacity of a unique third rack. Use the third rack for washing that additional cookie sheet and even throw in an extra pan or two. Adjust the middle rack downward for added space in the top rack for stemware. Or move the middle rack upward to add large mixing bowls on the bottom. In a pinch, remove the middle rack altogether and open up enough space for a stockpot or canner. One of our less costly premium selections, this model can be purchased in the popular stainless-steel finish for around $829. If a three-rack model is particularly enticing, also check out the JDB2100AWS from Maytag's sister company, Jenn-Air. Jenn-Air's version runs a bit more and can be expected to cost about $1089.
KitchenAid Dish Drawer KUDD01DPPA
Coming in just below Miele's Advanta, this next dishwasher sits at a price around $1,200. KitchenAid's Dish Drawer KUDD01DPPA is a dishwasher with a different spin. It has two separate drawers to load with dirty dishes. With this dishwasher, there is no need to run a whole dishwasher when only half of it is filled. Simply load one drawer and run it. Or if you have that many dirty dishes, fill both drawers and run the dishwasher. It's your choice, but either way you are saving energy and water-- always a plus.
Bosch Evolution SHU66CO
The Evolution SHU66CO has been in Bosch's lineup for a while now. Since its inception, a number of other manufacturer's have followed Bosch's lead and are incorporating similar features into their models. Buyers are drawn to this model for styling, but overall satisfaction has been driven by quiet operation, efficiency, reliability and warranty coverage. We particularly like the options of running just the top rack or a quick cycle for lightly soiled items. The quiet sound rating of just 48 decibels also makes this model a favorite. Expect to spend about $959 for this model in a stainless-steel finish. Black, white or biscuit is offered for about $100 less.
